Description
Final Exit is intended to be read by a mature adult who is suffering from a terminal illness and is considering the option of rational suicide if and when suffering becomes unbearable. It also gives guidance to those who might be supportive of this option.
For the first time in published literature, the ways in which doctors and nurses may need to handle a patient’s request for euthanasia are outlined.
The author writes from personal experience and from 12 years as national executive director of the Hemlock Society.
“No decent human being would allow an animal to suffer without putting it out of its misery. It is only to buman beings that human beings are so cruel as to allow them to live on in pain, in hopelessness, in living death, without moving a muscle to help them. It is against such attitudes that this book fights.”
— Isaac Asimov (author)
